What I was saying was that the people who gank others will be the ones not in the borderlands and not in the minigames, because that is not ganking. There is a normalization in those 2 places that does not favor a gank.
What I'm saying is that the minigames and battlekeeps will deter enough gankers so that levelling in farming areas will be fine and that the mythical "server depopulation" will never happen. The percentage of people that gank for the sake of ganking when they COULD be progressing their characters is very, very, very low, and usually only done out of boredom for an hour or less by an individual ganker. Other times are through convenience, when they see an enemy farming get low hp so he goes over to 1-shot them. Again, just a 1 time deal, and doesn't lead to camping.
In WoW when the battlegrounds came out the only players still around for World PvP were the gankers.
Actually when BGs came out pretty much every single person went to do them. It wasn't until a few months later that people really started to depart from them, either from boredom or fromg etting the rewards they wanted. A lot of the gankers in WoW were in guilds like Militia and TC who just took a break from BGs like once a month to do some world pvp. And even then they only PvP'd at BRM, becuase Blizzard had made that sone so heavy with PvE traffic. They didn't make a zone like that in TBC, and you can see the results. Seeing Funcom is learning from their own mistakes and from Blizzard's I don't know if they would make that same mistake, either.
So, I guess I am just confused on your wanting of a PvP server. You are saying that minigames and borderlands are going to all but kill world PvP (like it did in WoW), so why does it matter to you what sort of server we are on?
Because when this game releases everyone will be on equal footing. Nobody will know how to play and there won't be any ganking from high level people. Once we get our chars up we won't have to worry about high level ganking. On the other hand, if we roll on a PvE server and decide later that it's too boring and we want to reroll on a PvP server, we have lost that opportunity. Like I said, the PvP servers tend to have better players as well, which helps with when we start doing PvE raiding. And because, once the server is established a year from now, there will still be that feeling of needing to be aware of your surroundings anywhere you go, which I enjoy in my games, because I enjoy excitement and uncertainty in my games.
BTW, does it seem weird to anyone else that someone could fight with you ungroup with you when you are at low health and kill you on the spot?
Doesn't seem any different from when someone in a PuG gets pissed and pulls 3 packs to your group.
I am looking for a reason as to why a FFA is worth the trouble that comes with it.
For what I said above, but I'll state them clearly here. 1) The "trouble" will be minimal. 2) It grants access to more skilled players who have more free time, helping with both battlekeep and PvE raiding.
Look at it from my perspective. I like team PvP and team PvE. On a FFA server I see it being difficult to do more team pvp than solo pvp since most of the time it will be 1 on 1s through soloing and ganking.
I don't see how, seeing how if you're doing team PvP you will be in border kingdoms and if you are doing PvE you will be in a dungeon. The only place where soloing and ganking will occur will be when you choose you want to do soloing in the farming areas, and even then the ganking will be minimal and doesn't always guarantee you dying, like you seem to think, because you can kill them, you can sprint away from them, and you can switch to a different instance from them.
I also think that the PvE focused people will stay away from the FFA servers, even the ones inclined to PvP like me, just because the PvP benefits are already on the normal servers. That makes it harder to find PvE groups for end game content.
No. On PvE and PvP servers people will do what they want to do regardless of what server type they chose, just like WoW. I've played lvl 70s on both PvP and PvE servers, both of them high population. And on both servers it was equally difficult to find a fucking tank to run heroic mech. The real difference is that, on PvP servers you have more people that are interested in doing PvP (and thus less tanks), and on PvE servers, you have older people with stricter work schedules that don't play the game as much, so they aren't around to help with pvp, or pve, or very much of anything, besides solo farming and the occasional pvp bg or instance per week. I noticed that Ghostlands, even though it was high pop, had about as many people on as Frostmane, which is medium pop.
So those are my reasons. I really don't think we will be shooting ourselves in the foot like you say.
